How to buy the right bow is a critical step.  This is definitely the most important piece of archery equipment that you will shop for.  There are basically three types of bows you can choose from.  There are longbows, recurve bows, and compound bows.  The longbow is the most basic among the three and suitable for beginners, but bow sights are not used for longbows or recurves.  The recurve bow is generally made from timber and can be used by archers at a beginner and intermediate levels.  Lastly there is the compound bow which is my favorite and are most suitable for archers with advanced levels.  Other reminders when shopping for bows are your height, arm length, limb weight, and what kind of archery competition will be right for you to join.  The most important thing to remember when shopping for bows and archery equipment is to find one that feels and fits you the best. 

Shopping tips for other pieces of archery equipment are...

Bow sights- Sights act as an aiming point on your target in making an accurate shot.  Multiple sight pins allow a hunter to set several yardages by eliminating the need to aim high or low on a target after judging the distance of the shot.  Decide what you want out of your sight before making a purchase.  That goes for any piece of archery equipment.

Arrow Rest- The rest is what supports the arrow during the shot process.  There are many types of archery rests to choose from depending on your style.  Through out the year, a lot of  rests and archery equipment have been more practical for the bow hunter.

Stabilizer- This is a weighted extension from the front of your bow to help the archer with balance while shooting.  Most stabilizers are efficient so there is no need to get real technical when choosing one.

Arrows- This is another important piece of archery equipment when it comes to your bow.  You have the option to use either carbon or aluminum arrows.  Aluminum arrows are usually heavier and can bend easier.  Carbon arrows are lighter which would make the arrow fly faster and they will break before they bend.
